Form Fades is scored for the modern mixed sextet – flute, clarinet, violin, cello, percussion, and piano – and was completed in July 2014. It was commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, DC, a program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Christoph Eschenbach, Music Director, in honor of the 2011 American Residency Program in Kentucky.

Approximately eighteen-minutes long, Form Fades includes five roughly equal movements. The movement titles – I. Ritual Fills, II. Pulse Frees, III. Memory Feels, IV. Petal Floats, V. Hammer Falls – were chosen for their alliterative aspect, their evocative nature, and their freely interpreted suggestions about the quality of the music. With only a few, scattered solos, “Form Fades” is ensemble music.
